Announcement of Tour ( PDF)

This year…

AEWG is planning a truly special and fun event!

On Tuesday evening, August 20, AEWG-45 and ITI have planned a tour of a fascinating section of the Chicago River on a chartered boat, followed by a delicious family-style dinner at the Greek Islands Restaurant in the city's unique Greek Town.

While on the boat, besides engaging in delightful conversation with drinks and snacks, we will hear about Chicago's renowned architecture and bridges. Guided by Joan Lindsey, a respected authority on the Chicago River and the city's architecture, we will hear many facts and anecdotes. For example, Chicago has more movable bridges than any city in the world! Traveling along the waterfront, we will have the opportunity to gaze at spectacular classic buildings that span the 20th century. In addition, we will be awed by the reconstruction of Wacker Drive, a $200 million project that involves rebuilding the oldest and most deteriorated segment of the two-level roadway originally built in 1926.

These are just a few examples of what lies ahead for you. After dining on delectable Greek cuisine, you can return on our chartered bus to your hotel in Evanston or take the opportunity to explore downtown Chicago, traversing beautiful Michigan Avenue, riding the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier, or visiting the exciting new theatre district on State and Randolph.

Don't miss this wonderful event, an exciting addition to our stimulating technical program. The 45th AEWG meeting promises to be the best yet!
