Zdenek P. Bazant
Walter P. Murphy Professor Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering



Zdenek P. Bazant, McCormick Professor and Murphy Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Materials Science, at Northwestern since 1969, is a member of National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, Austrian, Italian and Czech science academies, recipient of four honorary doctorates, winner of numerous awards, and past president of two engineering societies. His interests: Fracture and inelastic behavior of concrete, composites, geomaterials and ice; damage mechanics, stability, size effect, hygrothermal effects, creep, chemo-diffusional problems, micro-mechanics, probability and structural engineering. In ITI, he uses his groundbreaking results on concrete fracture, size effects and creep to achieve improvements in building codes.
