Edward J. Czepiel has been a research associate at the Northwestern University Transportation Center and the University's industry research laboratory, BIRL since 1992. He assists in writing proposals for potential sponsors of research projects. He has designed and executed several phases of funded projects in transportation.
Mr. Czepiel is currently project manager of the Job Task Analysis of the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) project, which is funded by the Federal Aviation Administration. The research involves performing an industry-wide survey of the tasks that AMTs perform. The study will form the basis of changes to the federal aviation regulations that pertain to the certification and training requirements of AMTs.
Mr. Czepiel was also recently involved in a research effort to improve condition monitoring for bridge management, a project funded by Northwestern University's Infrastructure Technology Institute. He researched and evaluated current bridge management practices at state and local transportation agencies for this project, and is currently developing a methodology to integrate the results of nondestructive testing techniques into a bridge management system. In addition, he is researching the improvement of inspection reports and procedures in a bridge management system.
Mr. Czepiel earned a Master of Science of Civil Engineering in Transportation degree from Northwestern University in 1992. He earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Massachusetts in 1991.
